Being Organized is a Mindset
When we are trying to better our life, we may spend a lot of time focused on shifting our mindset. It’s necessary to move from a fixed to a growth mindset if we want to achieve greater goals. Focusing on abundance instead of scarcity brings us more of the things we desire. Mindset shifts are at the core of behavior changes and necessary to revise ingrained habits.
There is a mindset shift which happens when we go from living with clutter to keeping an organized space. One of the wonderful benefits of this change is an increase in productivity. It’s common to want more time during the day or an extra day in the week to focus on the activities which really bring us joy. An organized space gifts us with more time and focus.
People who are organized do not search for lost items. They don’t surround themselves with extra junk to manage. Extra trips to Target to get batteries when you can’t find them are avoided. Getting distracted by the piles of laundry needing to be folded is extinct. Children asking, “Mom, where’s my _____?”, seem to disappear. Doesn’t this sound heavenly?
Think of all the things you can accomplish when these little annoyances are removed from your day!
More Time, Less Confusion
An organized space leads to a productive life because our time and mental focus are restored. Everyday tasks such as laundry are accomplished more quickly and easily when closets and drawers are organized. Responding to emails takes less time and energy when your inbox is properly sorted and maintained. The tasks we “must” complete get checked off our to do lists so much faster because there is nothing extra in the way. When every item in our home has a designated place, we find the time and energy needed to dive into our passions. Instead of sifting through piles of old photographs, we are able to get outside and enjoy a hike with friends or family. Rather than searching the garage to find sporting equipment, we can be playing a second game of tennis. It’s a lot more fun to paint a beautiful landscape than it is to rummage through boxes looking for all your art supplies.
A messy home is not the sign of a well lived life. A cluttered office is not the hallmark of a busy go-getter. This “mad scientist” mindset doesn’t serve us. Neat, tidy, and efficient spaces bring calm, clarity, and abundance to our lives. If you’ve set a goal to get more done in your day or prioritize chasing your dreams, getting organized is an excellent place to start.
