Adding Structure To Your Day
Ever feel like you’re being pulled in a million directions? Confused with how to handle competing priorities?
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s not uncommon to feel a little lost when considering how to get it all done. You make lists, buy organizing apps, subscribe to digital calendar solutions, but nothing really gets you feeling empowered, in control, and successful. So what do you do?
Last week I wrote about falling in love with your “To Do” list by prioritizing exactly what you need to get done. The first step to completing tasks quickly and efficiently is to keep one list with everything you need to get done on it. To find out why this works, check out the full blog post here.
What is a Strength Session?
The second way to get your most urgent tasks completed is to investigate what time of day you are most productive. I call it your Strength Session. If you’re a morning person, you’ll want to focus on your hardest, most complex tasks first. Then, as your energy and attention wan, you’ll want to accomplish easier tasks. The goal is to match your highest priority tasks with your peak productivity hours.
Ready, Set, Accomplish!
Your Strength Session should be dedicated to one, truly important task. This will allow you to make as much progress as possible. Still, you need to be realistic about what you can accomplish. Don’t overestimate how much you can do. Leave some time and space for the unexpected because it will happen. Being able to manage interruptions, new tasks, and delays while still making some progress is a huge accomplishment. We should remember everything we tackle gracefully during the day and celebrate it. In the end, prioritizing is all about checking off a task and feeling like a rock star.
